Traveling Newlyweds Take Washington

Seattle, Washington

Part 2: The Great Outdoors

In my last Traveling Newlyweds post I talked all about experiencing the city of Seattle. This time we are exploring the great outdoors! Nearby Seattle is the town of Snoqualmie, home to Snoqualmie Falls . There are light hiking trails and great views. This scenic spot offers a two acre park, gift shop, observation deck, the Salish Lodge and of course the 270 foot waterfall. Parking and access to the observation is free of charge and is also wheelchair accessible.

After admiring the views of the twin waterfalls we decided to have lunch at the Salish Lodge. In the top of the lodge there is a restaurant called “The Attic” that, among other things, serves stone fired pizza, and overlooks the falls. It’s a very comfortable setting with unique menu offerings. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. The lodge itself was first built in 1916 and originally named “The Snoqualmie Falls Lodge.” Along with The Dining Room & The Attic it also holds a spa that specializes in northwestern style herbal treatments. They are known for their  “World Famous Country Breakfast,” originally named the “Farm Breakfast.” Another fun fact about the Salish Lodge is that they serve fresh honey from their own honeybees. The Salish Lodge & Spa is the perfect location for a romantic weekend getaway any time of year. I would love to go back one day and spend a weekend at the lodge, or book one of their vacation packages that I’ll talk about a little bit later.

After lunch we weren’t quite ready to leave and decided to walk through the gift shop. Where, to my great surprise and delight, I learned that the Salish Lodge and Snoqualmie Falls is the setting for cult favorite, tv show “Twin Peaks” (not to be confused with the restaurant by the same name). The Great Northern scenes were filmed at Salish Lodge. The gift shop takes advantage of this connection and offers many “Twin Peak” inspired souvenirs. They also offer a variety of vacation packages including “The Great Northern Escape,” which is a one night stay that includes (among other things) an amazon gift card for you to stream the first season, the famous cherry pie & coffee, and a “Twin Peaks” map for a self guided tour of the area.

If you’re not a Twin Peaks fan you can also book a number of other vacation packages including, “Breakfast in Bed,” "Romance atop the Falls,” “Dr. Pepper’s Prescription,” “Salish Signature Package,” “Babymoon at Salish,” “Savor Salish,” “Salish Rejuvenation,” and “It’s a Dog’s World.” Prices for the packages can vary significantly depending on which night you stay and may include meal credits and spa sessions. Right now, I think I'd like to book "Breakfast in Bed" but all of the options have great offerings.

How would you plan a trip to Washington?

Would you like to book a package at Salish Lodge? If so, Which one?
